The Financial Strain of Youth Sports: JGST 2/15

By / February 15, 2015 / Highlights, mlb

It’s the latest edition of JG Sports Talk with your host Amiri Tulloch! On today’s show, Amiri discusses the many aspects of Little League Baseball after the Chicago-based Jackie Robinson West team (2014 LLWS champions) were stripped of their title for violating geographic guidelines.

Amiri responds to an article written by Pittsburgh Pirate Andrew McCutchen, in which Andrew explains how youth baseball leaves out kids who are not financially stable. McCutchen describes several monetary challenges that emerge when playing youth baseball, an angle that Amiri dissects in broader detail among other youth sports. Amiri also explains why making baseball more appealing to younger people must be priority number one for new MLB commissioner Rob Manfred in 2015 and beyond.
